About
Villa Pascali is a beautiful place of peace, relaxation and fun. Its also a family home and you will find art works, artifacts and very individual furnishings in every room. These form part of the overall design as well as our taste for creativity and play, which we greatly encourage through local visits and day trips to the wonderful amenities of Le Marche.
A Villa built for holidays
Villa Pascali was built in the mid-19 th century by the wealthy Pascali family of Comunanza, as a
holiday retreat during the hot summer months. The family farmed large areas of the locality but
being innovators, sold most of the land to establish a thriving silkworm industry. With their
increasing wealth and status, came the desire to build a country house in Comunanza. However,
by the mid-20 th century, after two World Wars, the collapse of the Italian economy, and a flood of cheap foreign silk imports, the family’s finances were left devastated and the villa was abandoned.

Finding Pascali
Whilst hiking the local area in the summer of 2010, Chris Monkhouse and his late wife Elaine, together with his children Alex and Ben, stumbled upon the overgrown dwelling. Invisitle due to thousands of sapling trees and brambles, the ruin was only
visible when close up. At this point they had no idea of the extent of the property, the drive, fountain, formal garden and terraces were only to be discovered later.
Chris loved the romance of what they had found, the potential of the ruined houses and the tranquility of the garden and its natural features. So, with the help of his new partner Jo, a dream was born.

Created for enjoyment
When Villa Pascali was restored, many new amenities were added to create a home for enjoyment. The extensive grounds mean that there are always places of peace as well as for entertaining and socialising.
The pool and pool house
The 15m long swimming pool is 1.10 m deep, ideal for all ages to exercise, but shallow enough for children to play. Incorporated is a small children's play pool, only 0.40m deep for tiny ones. Children must be supervised at all times.
The pool house offers chairs and sun-loungers on the partially shaded patio, as well as a fridge for cool drinks and small kitchen area.
Barbecue and Pizza oven
A barbecue and pizza oven are situated near the pool on a headland overlooking the mountains, and basking in the evening sunshine. The rustic table seating twelve is made from cedar planks sourced from the gardens.
Vineyard and Vegetable Garden
A small vineyard on the south facing terraces was established in 2018, and now produces 200 bottles of wine each year, from Montepulciano, Malvasia Pecorino and Ciliegolo grapes.
There is also a vegetable garden where guests are welcome to pick fresh vegetables in season.
