About Villa Pascali

Villa Pascali is many things at once — a historic estate, a working vineyard, a family home, and a place where guests are welcomed as though they've always belonged. Every room tells a story, and every corner of the grounds has been shaped by years of care, creativity and a deep love for this part of Italy.

A Villa Built for Holidays

A family home, a labour of love, and a place made for sharing

Villa Pascali was built in the mid-19th century by the wealthy Pascali family of Comunanza as a summer retreat during the hot Italian months. Innovators by nature, the family had sold much of their farmland to establish a thriving silkworm industry, and with their growing wealth came the ambition to build something lasting. By the mid-20th century, however, the combined toll of two World Wars, the collapse of the Italian economy, and a flood of cheap foreign silk imports had left the family's fortunes in tatters. The villa was abandoned, and nature slowly began to reclaim it.

Finding Pascali

In the summer of 2010, Chris Monkhouse and his late wife Elaine were hiking the local hills with their children Alex and Ben when they stumbled upon an overgrown dwelling, barely visible through thousands of saplings and tangles of bramble. Only when they drew close did the true scale of what they'd found begin to reveal itself — the drive, the fountain, the formal garden and terraced grounds emerging one by one from the undergrowth.

Chris was captivated by the romance of it: the ruined houses, the silent garden, the sense of a place waiting to be found again. With the support of his partner Jo, a vision took shape — to restore Villa Pascali to the spirit it was built for, and open it to guests who would love it as much as they did.

Created for enjoyment

The restoration of Villa Pascali brought not just the buildings back to life, but the grounds that surround them. Today the estate is a place designed above all for enjoyment — with space to be sociable, space to be quiet, and everything in between.

The Pool &
Pool House

At the heart of the outdoor space sits a 15-metre swimming pool, shallow enough for young children and long enough for a proper morning swim. The adjoining pool house offers sun-loungers, a shaded patio, a fridge stocked for warm afternoons, and the kind of view — across the valley towards the Sibillini Mountains — that makes it very difficult to go inside.

Barbeque &
Pizza Oven

Perched on a headland overlooking the mountains and catching the last of the evening sun, the outdoor kitchen is one of the great pleasures of a stay at Villa Pascali. A rustic cedar table seats twelve, and the wood-fired pizza oven has a way of turning an ordinary evening into a memorable one.

Vineyard &
Vegetable Garden

Established in 2018 on the estate's south-facing terraces, the small vineyard now produces around 200 bottles each year from Montepulciano, Malvasia Pecorino and Ciliegolo grapes. Guests are welcome to explore the vegetable garden and pick whatever is in season — there is something quietly satisfying about eating something you've just pulled from the ground.
