About Villa Pascali

Villa Pascali is many things at once — a historic estate, a working vineyard, a family home, and a place where guests are welcomed as though they've always belonged. Every room tells a story, and every corner of the grounds has been shaped by years of care, creativity and a deep love for this part of Italy.

A Villa Built for Gathering

A family home, a labour of love, and a place made for sharing

Villa Pascali was built in the mid-19th century by the wealthy Pascali family of Comunanza as a summer retreat during the hot Italian months. Innovators by nature, the family had sold much of their farmland to establish a thriving silkworm industry, and with their growing wealth came the ambition to build something lasting. By the mid-20th century, however, the combined toll of two World Wars, the collapse of the Italian economy, and a flood of cheap foreign silk imports had left the family's fortunes in tatters. The villa was abandoned, and nature slowly began to reclaim it.

Finding Pascali

In the summer of 2010, Chris Monkhouse and his late wife Elaine were hiking the local hills with their children Alex and Ben when they stumbled upon an overgrown dwelling, barely visible through thousands of saplings and tangles of bramble. Only when they drew close did the true scale of what they'd found begin to reveal itself — the drive, the fountain, the formal garden and terraced grounds emerging one by one from the undergrowth.

Chris was captivated by the romance of it: the ruined houses, the silent garden, the sense of a place waiting to be found again. With the support of his partner Jo, a vision took shape — to restore Villa Pascali to the spirit it was built for, and open it to guests who would love it as much as they did.

Areas for Enjoyment

The restoration of Villa Pascali brought not just the buildings back to life, but the grounds that surround them. Today the estate is a place designed above all for enjoyment — with space to be sociable, space to be quiet, and everything in between.

The Pool &
Pool House

At the heart of the outdoor space sits a 15-metre swimming pool, shallow enough for young children and long enough for a proper morning swim. The adjoining pool house offers sun-loungers, a shaded patio, a fridge stocked for warm afternoons, and the kind of view — across the valley towards the Sibillini Mountains — that makes it very difficult to go inside.

Barbeque &
Pizza Oven

Perched on a headland overlooking the mountains and catching the last of the evening sun, the outdoor kitchen is one of the great pleasures of a stay at Villa Pascali. A rustic cedar table seats twelve, and the wood-fired pizza oven has a way of turning an ordinary evening into a memorable one.

Vineyard &
Vegetable Garden

Established in 2018 on the estate's south-facing terraces, the small vineyard now produces around 200 bottles each year from Montepulciano, Malvasia Pecorino and Ciliegolo grapes. Guests are welcome to explore the vegetable garden and pick whatever is in season — there is something quietly satisfying about eating something you've just pulled from the ground.

The Studio Loft

One bright, adaptable space - shaped around whatever you've come to do

While much of Villa Pascali's life happens outdoors, its heart is inside: a large, light-filled loft that spans half a floor of the estate and reconfigures effortlessly around your programme. Sunlight moves across it through the day, the proportions are generous, and the mood shifts with whatever you bring to it.

In the morning it's a yoga studio, mats laid out to catch the early light. By mid-day it becomes a workshop or strategy room — circles of chairs, a wall for ideas, space to think. Come evening it can turn again: a long table for a shared dinner, a screening, a talk, or simply somewhere for the whole group to fold into sofas as the valley darkens outside. One room, as many forms as your days require.

It's the space that makes Villa Pascali work as a true retreat venue rather than simply a beautiful place to stay — a dependable indoor anchor for practice, presentation and connection, whatever the season or the weather.

Accommodation

Eleven classically appointed bedrooms across three buildings

Villa Pascali offers eleven beautifully appointed bedrooms, each showcasing their own character and identity. Five feature en-suite bathrooms, with six sharing a bathroom with one other. Rooms can be configured in multiple ways, including King and Queen beds, with two rooms capable of being set up with Twin beds.

Casa Pacifico

Three bedrooms · Sleeps up to six

Named after one of the last Pascali sons to live at the villa, Casa Pacifico is a fully independent three-bedroom house with a character all its own. Two generous king bedrooms and a flexible twin room make it ideal for families or small groups of friends, while the large sitting room and fully fitted kitchen give you everything you need to settle in properly. Step outside onto the private patio with a glass of something cold, and let the stillness of the estate do the rest.

Casa Lucia

Two bedrooms · Sleeps up to four

Named after a daughter of the Pascali family, Casa Lucia is a first-floor apartment with an elegance that feels both Italian and intimate. Two double bedrooms, each with their own en-suite, open onto a light-filled main room with kitchen, dining area and a cosy sitting space gathered around a wood-burning stove. Outside, a flower-covered gazebo makes the perfect spot for a morning coffee or a lazy evening glass of wine.

The Main Villa

Six bedrooms · Sleeps up to twelve

Alongside Casa Pacifico and Casa Lucia, the original heart of Villa Pascali, the main house holds six generously proportioned bedrooms — the largest and most gracious on the estate. Here the villa's nineteenth-century character comes through most clearly: high, airy ceilings, tall windows that draw in the light and frame the surrounding hills, and the kind of period detail that only a lovingly restored old house can offer. Spacious, characterful, and quietly elegant, these rooms give your group room to breathe and rest well, while placing them at the very centre of estate life.
